It's time to raid the recycling bin to make a crafty Cereal Box Pumpkin! This fine-motor fall craft is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers because they get to paint, learn about shapes, twist pipe cleaners, glue, and cut!
Cereal Box Pumpkin
The thing I love most about this craft is how simple and inexpensive it is. The pumpkins look cute in a child's bedroom or sitting outside on a porch. Kids can make all sorts of crazy pumpkin faces! It's perfect for home or school.
To make this craft you will need:
- Empty cereal box
- Orange paint
- Paintbrush
- Green pipe cleaners
- Toilet paper roll
- White school glue
- Black construction paper
- Scissors
After gathering supplies, invite children to paint the cereal box orange. We used several coats of acrylic paint, as the ink on the cereal box made the paint bead up in some spots.

While the paint is drying, invite children to cut shapes for their pumpkin's face with scissors. Tracing household objects makes this task easy and fun! Challenge kids to find triangles, circles, and something unusual to trace for their pumpkin's mouth.
Glue the toilet paper roll to the top of the cereal box. Next, kids can glue their shapes to the pumpkin's face. Use a small piece of tape to attach a twisted pipe cleaner to the top of the cereal box as a vine. Kids may also tape their vine to the stem of their pumpkin. When all of the glue is dry, proudly display the pumpkin!
TIP: Show kids how to twist their pipe cleaner around a wooden spoon, then gently slide it off! Now they have a twisted pumpkin vine!
