Best Parenting Advice

1. WHAT WE MEAN WHEN WE SAY WE NEED A BREAK

Sneak Peek:
As a stay-at-home mom of two small children, when I say that I need a break, I'm not talking about wanting a vacation or a treat as a reward for doing my job. Needing a break doesn't mean that I'm seeking a respite from my responsibilities or that I want to put my feet up. It means that I need a moment to feel like a human being in the midst of a relentless life where I don't belong to myself anymore; where I give my love and energy away, every moment of my existence, and can't figure out how to keep any for myself.

2. WHY I STILL CARRY MY KIDS

Sneak Peek:
I see you looking my way – when I hold my 7 year old, my 5 year old, my 3 year old in my arms. I want to tell you something: my 9 year old doesn't fit there anymore… and that is why I still carry my kids.

3. DOES YOUR CHILD HAVE SENSORY ISSUES?

Sneak Peek:
Have you ever heard the phrase "sensory issues" and thought… hmm, I wonder if that could be my child?

You are not alone. With the increasing awareness of all things sensory, more and more parents are starting to wonder the same thing.  When your child struggles with sensory issues it can be downright debilitating. In fact, it can affect every aspect of your life, from family outings to night time routines. When a child struggles with sensory issues, it can make every day activities difficult and make parenting even harder than it already is.

5. DIY DREAM CATCHERS// MADE BY KIDS

Sneak Peek:
I'm so excited to finally get this post up!! We made these dream catchers during art camp in July and the kids were so into it. They really loved making all of the different elements: taping, wrapping, sewing, beading, painting and pom-pom making. It was a very busy three hours. I was SO proud of everything they accomplished completely on their own! I posted the above photo on Instagram that day and it has been my most popular photo of the summer. I knew I had to get my act together and download the rest of my photos so that I could share our process with you – before next summer. (I'm slow like that.)

I love indoor camping, its fun and you don't have to worry about getting bit by mosquito's! I am not an outdoorsy kind of person and camping just is not usually my thing. Luckily, we can still have some camping fun by moving it indoors.

7. WHY FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN IS A TERRIBLE IDEA

Sneak Peek:
My first job after college was a kindergarten teacher. I started in a district that had full day kindergarten, and they'd had it for a long time. There was an entire set of discipline procedures in place for misbehaving kindergarteners that was a little less strict and a little more forgiving than it was for older kids. I didn't know any better, and in my book it was logical and fair. A couple of years later, I went to a district that was switching form half day kindergarten to full day kindergarten. When I asked about discipline measures, and what we would do with kids that needed to be removed from the classroom, I was met with a lot of blank stares.

10. 10 THINGS CHILDREN WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER

Sneak Peek:
I am sharing with you today 10 things that I will never forget. I come from a childhood packed with millions of sweet memories surrounded by family, friends, and people that understood what love is. It is amazing to me that most things I remember from my childhood make me smile and happy, considering that we had really little money, a lot of empty stomachs and much reason to pray for help. I had a wonderful childhood not because of the things we had but because we had each other.
