Is your family heading to the beach this summer for a family vacation? Beach-themed Under the Sea Playdough is perfect for kids who need a quiet sensory break from the hustle and bustle of traveling.
Under the Sea Playdough
This playdough, reminiscent of a tide pool, is packed with sensory fun for kids of all ages.
Materials and Directions:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1 cup of water
- 1 tsp Cream of Tartar
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- blue and green food dye (we used “neon” food dye)
Stir all of the ingredients together (except the food dye) in a small sauce pan. Cook the playdough over medium heat until it clumps into a large white ball.
Flip the playdough onto the counter. When it is cool enough to touch, knead the playdough until it is soft.
Divide the white playdough into 3 bowls. In the first bowl, squeeze a few drops of blue food dye. In the second bowl, squeeze a few drops of the green food dye. Leave the third bowl white. Knead the first and second bowls with your fingertips to make the playdough turn blue and green, respectively. (You may wish to wear latex gloves for this part!)
Next, dump all of the playdough together on the counter then knead it together to create a marbled effect.
We paired our swirly sea playdough with coral, small shelves, and the Safari LTD Coral Reef TOOB.
The kids had fun making imprints and setting up underwater scenes. This playdough kept them busy while they were cooling off from the hot summer sun!
