People Post: Staff Changes In Health Philanthropy; Honors; Job Openings

Jehan Benton-Clark will join the Colorado Health Foundation later this month as portfolio director for community engagement. She comes to the foundation, located in Denver, from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she was a senior program officer. According to a press release, she recently received the ABFE’s Emerging Leader in Philanthropy award. She also has been a Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Fellow.

Effective April 18, Bonnie J. Hackbarth is the new director of communications at Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, located in Louisville. She was formerly a senior counselor at Guthrie/Mays Public Relations, where she had clients in health and other fields. According to a press release, her previous positions include director of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC’s) press office, in Washington, D.C.

Erica Hallock, former director of government relations at Empire Health Foundation, located in Spokane, Washington, left the foundation in March to become Washington State co-director at Council for a Strong America. Read her 2015 GrantWatch blog post on end-of-life care here.

John K. Iglehart was named the 2016 recipient of the William B. Graham Prize for Health Services Research, which will be awarded by the Baxter International Foundation and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration on June 23. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), appeared at number twenty-six on Modern Healthcare magazine’s “50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders-2016” list, which was released in April. David Blumenthal, president of the Commonwealth Fund, also was on that list at number thirty-five.

Adam Linker joined the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust as the Health Care Division program officer in March 2016. He is the primary contact for the trust’s grantees and potential grantees in the Eastern North Carolina region, according to a press release. The trust funds across North Carolina. Linker is the former codirector of the North Carolina Justice Center’s Health Care Access Coalition.

Leila May Polintan, communications director at Grantmakers In Health (GIH), passed away in April at age thirty-nine “after a courageous 3.5 year battle with breast cancer,” according to the GIH website. Erica Snow has been promoted to portfolio director for the Colorado Health Foundation’s Health Care and Health Coverage portfolio. Snow, who has been with the foundation since 2008, most recently was the interim portfolio director.

Kim VanPelt, former director of state health policy and advocacy at St. Luke’s Health Initiatives (SLHI), a foundation in Phoenix, is now chief regional officer at First Things First. Also, Children’s Action Alliance honored VanPelt as its 2016 Champion for Children. In other news, SLHI has a new name: Vitalyst Health Foundation. Job Openings

Health Policy Analyst at the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH), located in St. Louis. According to the funder’s website, this analyst “will share responsibility and accountability for the Foundation’s overall effectiveness in generating and accelerating positive changes in health.” Six to nine years of work experience including analytical work in an academic setting, agency, or foundation are required, and a master’s degree “in an appropriate discipline or profession” is preferred. Senior Program Officer, High-Value Care, at the California Health Care Foundation, based in Oakland. This position focuses on “behavioral health integration for people with serious mental illness, as well as opportunities provided by new state integration initiatives.” Qualifications include a “professional clinical degree or master’s degree in psychology, social work, public health, public policy, health care administration, business, or related field.” Another qualification is “on-the-ground experience in health care delivery systems—medical, behavioral, or both.” The job is in the foundation’s Oakland office, and “there will be no paid relocations or telecommuting,” the funder notes.
