When I first read about the Hogwarts Hotline, I wasn’t sure it was for real. But being the huge Harry Potter fan that I am, I had to bite the bullet and see if it actually worked.
It worked!
What Happens If You Call The Hogwarts Hotline
The US-based phone number answers with an informational recording from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
After making a selection, a very nice sounding lady shares the details on how students arrive to the campus via Platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross Station. Of course, Hogwarts is located in an undisclosed location in Scotland for security reasons, so you don’t get much more info than that.
A fun surprise interrupts the call, which, it turns out, is a clever advertisement for the University of Phoenix. I won’t give any spoilers, but let’s just say that kids especially will get a kick out of how the call ends.
Which you could say is pretty on point, since we all know how the phoenix is a great symbol in the Wizarding World.
But that begs the question, what would Hogwarts be doing with a Muggle telephone line? I mean, Mr. Weasley didn’t know how to use one and he dealt with Muggle artifacts every day. So I doubt some prospective student would try to call the Hogwarts Hotline to get more info on admissions.
Still, it’s a pretty cool way to waste two minutes. I can’t wait to show my seven-year-old Harry-Potter-loving son. I mean, we’ve already found the Wizarding World of Harry Potter hidden secrets and pouted in front of Platform 9 3/4, so why not give ol’ Hogwarts a ring?
Well, are you ready to call? Just dial (605) 475-6961.
