Cold and Flu season is upon us and unfortunately, that means that fever season is too. Fevers are not fun for anyone but are especially hard for infants. They are too young to understand why they feel the way they do and as parents we just want to see our children get better the fastest way possible. Which usually involves some sort of medication. However, giving medication to an infant can be tricky. So today we are partnering with FeverAll® to talk about 5 Tips For Handling Fevers In Infants.

5 Tips For Handling Fevers In Infants

When you have a sick infant everything stops. You want to comfort them and make them feel at ease. Sometimes you don’t really know where to start so we are here to help. Here are some tips for managing fevers in infants and helping get your child back to their normal self in no time!

  • Give a warm bath. Baths do such a great job and relaxing our bodies. For little one’s aches and pains can be almost unbearable and having a warm bath can help. I even like to add a few drops of essential oil to the baths for my little ones. I live a combination of lemon and lavender.
  • Get accurate temperature readings frequently. One of the important things to do when your baby has a fever is to watch the fever. Most of the time a fever is just a natural response to your child fighting an infection such as the cold or flu bug. However, you want to watch it to make sure it doesn’t go beyond the normal fever level. For a child, one of the easiest and most accurate ways to measure their temperate is rectally. I really like the Safety 1st Gentle Read Rectal Thermometer. If you notice your child’s fever continually rising, get into contact with your child’s pediatrician. feverall1
  • Dress lightly. While you may think your child is cold due to their fever, the best thing to do is avoid any additional blankets or clothing. They really need a light onesie or pajamas and then a small sheet. Anything more than that can actually make their fever worse and we don’t want that!
  • Keep your child hydrated. When your infant is sick the best thing you can do is offer fluids. If they are still breastfeeding and/or on formula, offer it to them often but don’t force it. Even a little at a time goes a long way in helping keep them hydrated.
  • Give your child a fever reducer. Aside from the fever itself, chills and aches and pains are rough. You can give a fever reducer to help ease some of the symptoms and bring the fever down. Not all medications are safe for children under the age of 1 so of course you want to be careful. FeverAll is a brand that has Acetaminophen Suppositories safe for children 6-36 months. These work great for giving your child the correct dose the first time without all the fuss and without refusing the oral medication. They even make them for children 3-6 years of age in case you have older sick children as well.

Choosing The Right Fever Reducer For Your Child

It’s the middle of the night and your child’s wakes with a fever. You run to the medicine cabinet only to find you don’t have any so you rush to the nearest drugstore open late at night only to get there and be confused what to get and give your child. Does that sound familiar? Sure it does!

Instead of those late-night trips to the store or second guessing if the medication (and dose) is correct for your child, just keep FeverAll stocked in your home. Why? Let me explain…

FeverAll® Acetaminophen Suppositories is the only acetaminophen brand with dosing instructions for children as young as six months of age. It is a great alternative for parents for when their infants and toddlers can’t or won’t take oral medication due to vomiting, nausea, fussiness or other health issues. FeverAll® is the only national brand of acetaminophen in suppository form and is available in three strengths for children from 6 months to 12 years of age.

Did you know that Acetaminophen is one of the most recommended non-prescription medications by healthcare professionals – including pediatricians and pediatric nurse practitioners – for temporary fever reduction and relief of minor aches and pain in infants and children? It’s true!

FeverAll® Infants’ Strength Suppositories (80 mg of acetaminophen) is the only acetaminophen product available with dosage instructions for children as young as six months of age. No second guessing and no messing up when you are sleep deprived too!feverall2
