Adulting is hard. Not only are you constantly faced with the challenges life throws at you, but you have the worry of finances. Unfortunately, unless your parents were some financial guru growing up, you probably didn’t know exactly what you were doing the first time you got a loan or applied for a credit card. The financial stresses associated with the unknown is what drives away our confidence and can bury us into a deep hole of debt.
So today we are partnering with our friends at SunTrust to share Easy Ways to Achieve Financial Confidence. We hope this will allow you to gain your confidence back and take control of your finances.
Easy Ways to Achieve Financial Confidence
Are you tired of feeling like you just work to pay bills? Are you living paycheck to paycheck like millions of Americans are today? Are you tired of fighting with your significant other over finances?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then you need to gain your confidence back when it comes to money. At this point, you might agree that money has taken over your life simply because you worry about it all the time. So wouldn’t it be nice if you could look at money in a more confident and positive way? We think so!
In order to really reach financial confidence there are a few things you need to do, and they are so easy that you can even do it with the kids. Hey, remember when I mentioned you probably didn’t grow up with a financial guru? Well, your kids can! You do not have to be an accountant or financial wiz to “get money” but you do need help to push you in the right direction.
5 Simple Tips to Achieve Financial Confidence:
- Talk about it – So many people are terrified to even talk about their money because they are afraid of what bill or black hole lies at the other end. Did you know that 21% of couples who rate their financial stress as at least “somewhat high” are arguing more? That is enough to make you not want to talk about it! Even worse, 80% of people admitted that their personal finances keep them awake at night. Talking about money is truly the first step to getting over the fear and stress associated with it.
- Set realistic goals – Goals are great but if they are unrealistic it will certainly be hard to ever achieve them which ends up being a total blow to your confidence. Set attainable goals like saving $50 a week (can be an easy as dining in every night) then move up to larger goals from there. Once you’ve hit a goal, your confidence level will soar.
- Keep Track of Spending – Far too often people use their credit and debit cards and they don’t understand where their money goes. It is simply because you are not connected to your money when you use it. Use cash more often, check your account daily online, or even write all of your expenses out in a notebook. Doing so will allow you to see where your money goes and where expenses can be cut. In the end, you CHOOSE how you spend money.
- Learn to say no – No can be a powerful word especially when it comes to money. It’s okay to say no to splurging on a want rather than a need. It’s okay to tell someone no that you won’t be attending an expensive birthday dinner. No can be such a great tool and resource for you when you are trying to get control of your finances. Say it with me… NO! See, didn’t that feel good?
- Bank with someone you trust – You need to bank with someone who has enough (or even more) confidence than you do when it comes to money. Open an account with a reputable bank and someone that will stand by your side through the good and bad.
Everyone can improve when it comes to finances
Here’s the thing, we all make mistakes and we certainly all make mistakes when it comes to spending. I am not going to tell you that I am perfect nor will I tell you I hold the secret to all of your financial troubles.
I will tell you that I have incorporated many of these easy tips into my own life. I talk about money with my husband, we have set realistic goals, we keep track of our spending, we have learned to say NO, and we bank with a trustworthy company. Sure, we have room to improve in all of the above but we are at least trying and in return, we have gained our confidence back when it comes to money.
