Above: My last trip to Vietnam in 2008.
By the time you read this, I'll have flown across the Pacific and be sitting in a Vietnamese sidewalk cafe, drinking an ice-cold glass of cafe sua da while people-watching and nursing my jetlag.
That's right, I'm in Vietnam! I'm here with the little one in Ho Chi Minh City to introduce her to the other side of her extended family, reconnect with relatives I haven't seen (or even met) in over a decade, and do some sightseeing in the country.
It's hard to believe the last time I was here was in 2006 (though I did spend a week in northern Vietnam in 2008, where the above picture was taken), and I'm very curious to see how much the city has changed since then. What I hope hasn't changed, however, are the amazing outdoor markets full of fresh fruits and vegetables, the tiny tables and chairs in front of the locals' restaurants, and above all, the street food. The street food! You've never had good Vietnamese food until you've had it in Vietnam — I'm drooling just thinking about it.
We're hoping to take a side trip to Myanmar or up the southern coast of Vietnam if time permits, as we only have three short weeks to divide between all the family we want to see and the day trips we want to do.
Meanwhile, I have a few new posts coming your way in the next three weeks, including the most highly-requested blog post of all time: a video tour of my garden! I finally got it done and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you. To make sure you don't miss it, you can subscribe to my site and have new posts delivered straight to your inbox.
See you back here next month! And if you want to follow along on my travels, add me on Instagram or bookmark my feed.
