3 Ways to Go Green in the Bathroom

Live a more nature-friendly morning and evening bathroom routine by making sure that you follow these tips:

Stop using disposable plastics
A simple way you can cut down on waste is to stop using disposable products and invest in ones that last much longer and don’t need to be thrown away. Razors are the prime example, for both men and women. Disposable razors come at a cheaper initial price but are made to wear out so you need to buy new ones regularly. And the old ones just end up in the landfill.

Swapping to an alternative, such as a double-edge razor, for example, is a simple and effective way to reduce your waste and be more eco-friendly. They also produce a better shave and, in the long-term, save you money. Source: Earth911

Go for eco-friendly fixtures
Toilets use approximately 27% of the water consumed in your home — more than any other appliances or plumbing — including the washing machine, dishwasher and shower. Replacing your old toilet with a low-flow model is a great place to start when greening your bathroom. Newer homes will boast more efficient low-flow toilets installed by their contractor, but those found in older homes can use up to a whopping 7 gallons per flush. While low-flow toilets used to get a bad rap for boasting a less than desirable flush, sometimes requiring users to hit the handle twice, modern low-flow toilets provide ample flushing power while still using just a fraction of the water. Avoid toxic chemical cleaners
Bathrooms are notoriously small and often poorly ventilated, so, of all the rooms in the house, this is the one that should be cleaned with green, non-toxic cleaners. Common household ingredients, like baking soda and vinegar, and a little elbow grease will do the job for most everything in the bathroom (more on that in a sec). If DIY isn’t your style, there are a bevy of green cleaners available on the market today; check out our guide for How to Go Green: Cleaners for all the details. Source: TreeHugger
