We've all been there… That moment when you realize it's REALLY necessary to finally organize your junk drawer. It's the one place in everyone's house that's always a wreck.
I've attempted to get mine in order here and there, but it never lasts long. I think with these smart organization ideas, our kitchen junk drawer can finally transform from a bottomless pit into a storage space that works for our entire family. Perhaps once I'm done, I'll actually be able to find a AA battery when I need one!
8 Ways To Finally Organize Your Junk Drawer: First Steps
Let's get started turning your junk drawer from drab to fab!
Clearly, I'm on latte #3 for the day, and have been binge-watching "Tidying Up With Marie Kondo" all week. That's why I'm about to get crazy and suggest you dump your junk drawer out on the counter or table, first. In my case, it's three junk drawers, so… latte # 4, let's do this!
Start by weeding out any garbage or things that you can donate. After that, separate the contents you're keeping into piles that make sense: batteries, change, screws and hardware, manuals, old keys that you're keeping because you're too scared you will toss them and then find out they were important, etc.
After you do all of that, you have to try this tip from Real Simple, it's brilliant, makes a ton of sense, and is something I probably wouldn't have thought of on my own: Make sure the contents of your junk drawer truly belong there. So, that bottle of nail polish and those tweezers? I could probably find a better home for them! The same with loose change (piggy bank or Coinstar), and paper clips (relocate those to the desk drawer), etc.
Now you're ready to get organized!

This might sound weird, but you'll definitely find blank greeting cards swimming around in my junk drawer, along with screws, paper clips, and plastic outlet covers. Why? Because I have good intentions and buy a bunch of cards I need for upcoming occasions when I go grocery shopping, but then I forget to send them out, and they get buried. I'm loving this idea from The Nerd's Wife, to create a DIY greeting card organizer! (Although I should probably slap some industrial strength magnets on the back so I can stick it to my fridge and remember to send them out for once!)
