One Pot Pizza Pasta for Kids

One Pot Pizza Pasta Featured

I am always looking for ways to make dinner easier, and one pot meals are my favorite! So when you’re contemplating ordering pizza for the third time this week, why not make One Pot Pizza Pasta instead?

This recipe combines the ease of a one pot dish with your kids’ favorite meal…pizza! My dear friend, Kelli shared this amazing pasta for kids recipe with me and we fell in love!

If you like sausage and pepperoni on your pizza, you will love this recipe. I also discovered the awesomeness of the mini pepperoni and I’m never going back.

What you need to make One Pot Pizza Pasta for Kids:

  • 1/2 pound Italian Sausage, without the casing
  • 1/2 cup Pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup mini Pepperoni
  • 20-25 ounces Tomato Basil Sauce (1 bottle)
  • 10 ounces Rigatoni pasta
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • Parsley, chopped for garnish
  • 1 1/2 cups Water

The first thing to do when you start this recipe is to make sure you have a skillet that can go into the oven. Not all skillets are oven-proof. We used a cast iron skillet that had a lid to fit.

Over a medium flame, heat up the olive oil and cook the Italian Sausage until it looks like a crumble. This takes about 5 minutes.

When the sausage is done, add half of the mini Pepperonis you have set aside. This takes only a minute to heat up.

Remove from the heat.

This is the fun part! Add your water, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, garlic powder, dry pasta and add a pinch of salt and pepper.  Remember the pasta is not cooked for this step — it will cook in the skillet with everything else.

Mix completely and put back on the stove on medium heat.

You will bring the skillet to a boil.  Reduce heat to allow for a simmer, cover and leave alone for about 12-13 minutes until the past is cooked.

Again keep in mind not to over-cook the pasta because it will cook a bit in the oven when you melt the cheese.

Once the pasta is done, remove from heat and add your toppings.

Start with a layer of both the regular pepperoni and rest of the mini pepperonis.

Then top it off with all of your shredded mozzarella cheese.

Put in the oven for just 2 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Add a little chopped parsley for color and serve. We put the skillet on our dining room table and served right from the pan.

You can serve with a veggie or some french bread. But like pizza, your kids will love this dish as their complete meal!
